Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the most powerful footballer on Instagram who will take part in this year’s World Cup.
The Manchester United striker has 481 million followers on the social media platform – more than any other player who will play in Qatar. Her individual posts are also worth the most to brands, with each post valued at £3.1million.
The analysis was carried out by statistics firm Nielsen Sports. They assessed players’ total follower count, follower growth over the past year, engagement rate, and average brand value per post on Instagram.
Ronaldo’s follower count has grown by nearly 47% over the past year and he has a 2.25% engagement rate on posts.
The Portuguese superstar ranks above his longtime rival Lionel Messi, who has 360m followers and an individual post value of £2.3m.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Argentine teammates Neymar (178m followers) and Kylian Mbappe (72.5m) rank third and fourth respectively, with their two individual positions worth just over £1million.
