Court refuses to grant Baba Ijesha’s bail request pending appeal

Court refuses to grant Baba Ijesha?s bail application pending appeal

On Wednesday, September 21, Judge Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Court refused to grant a bail application filed by convicted Nollywoord actor James Olarewaju aka Baba Ijesha.

Ijesha had requested bail for an appeal against a five-year sentence for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Taiwo canceled the bail request on the grounds that the actor did not meet the exceptional circumstances and criteria.

The judge said;

“The applicant must justify particular and exceptional circumstances because the mandate given to him is five years which must run concurrently.

“There is no evidence that the call was recorded and there is no indication in this court that the court will not deal with the case expeditiously.

“In the opinion of this court, the applicant has not demonstrated any special circumstances justifying his release on bail because he is facing a serious crime.

“In view of this case, I am inclined to deny the petitioners’ request for bail pending appeal.”
