Court dismisses four high school students for allegedly raping a mentally ill 16-year-old girl in Oyo
A family court in Iyaganku on Tuesday, March 21, ordered four students from Eleyele Secondary School, Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo State, to be remanded in custody for allegedly raping a classmate suffering from mental disorders.
Police have charged the underage defendants with conspiracy and unlawful sexual intercourse.
Police prosecutor Inspector Folake Ewe told the court that the students, between January and March 15, allegedly conspired to defile a mentally ill 16-year-old student.
She said the offense violated the provisions of Section 516 of the Penal Code and Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Act 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Sumbo Adetuyibi did not accept their plea for lack of competence.
Adetuyibi ordered that they be remanded in Abolongo Correctional Facility if Ijokodo Juvenile Correctional Facility, Ibadan does not accept them.
She adjourned the case until May 11, 2023, for notice.
