Court dismisses farm worker for allegedly raping 80-year-old woman to death in Ondo
A magistrate’s court in Akure ordered the remand of a 27-year-old laborer, Mima Chinecherem, to Ondo Correctional Center for allegedly violate to death an 80-year-old woman, Felicia Aderibigbe.
Chinecherem appeared in court on Thursday, May 25, on one count of murder.
Police Prosecutor Nelson Akintimehin told the court that the accused committed the offense on May 17, 2023 at around 10:00 p.m. at Ago Erinje via Costian Ore, Ondo State.
It was alleged that Chinecherem tied the octogen with cloth inside his cocoa farm and raped her to death.
According to the prosecution, the offense violates Section 319 of the Ondo State Criminal Law, 2006.
The court did not accept the defendant’s plea.
The prosecutor requested the court to place the suspect in a correctional center until a legal opinion from the office of the director of the prosecution is received.
The defendant, in his statement read to the court, denied being responsible for the woman’s death.
Chinecherem said he ignorantly took the deceased’s phone and cutlass from the farm and took them to her house when he learned that her family members had started raking the forest for her, in order to rescue them. inform of his death.
Chief Magistrate Musa Al-Yunus remanded the accused to Ondo Correctional Detention for legal advice and adjourned the case until October 2, 2023.
Ms Aderibigbe was reported missing on May 17, 2023, after she failed to return from her farm
The matter was reported to Otu Police Division Headquarters the following day.
The octogenarian’s body was later found at the edge of his farm after several days of searching by the community.
