The 8th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) has passed, but the impact of the event on African cinema and the entire entertainment industry persists. From conceptualization to delivery, the 8th AMVCA was an upgrade from previous editions.
The ceremony was a special display of African creativity and talent. It was an inclusive eight-day showcase of African fashion, culture, food, music, audiences and other elements that make up the African film industry.
Organized by MultiChoice, the AMVCA is an annual event that recognizes and celebrates excellence in the African film industry, in front of and behind the cameras.
The 2022 edition was also an upgrade of the award categories. For the first time, the AMVCAs have been extended to digital content creators and young African film talent from the acclaimed MultiChoice Talent Factory. It also featured Hollywood meets Nollywood in Nigeria as top American actors and producers were physically part of the week-long celebration in Lagos.
Recently, CNN’s Africa Avant Garde recognized the AMVCA as one of Africa’s biggest awards shows. The Avant Garde special edition focused on the eight-day string of activities marking the 8th AMVCAs.
It featured interviews with the CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr John Ugbe and the Executive Director of Content, MultiChoice Nigeria, Dr Busola Tejumola. MultiChoice executives provided insight into the design of the AMVCAs and the desire for an awards ceremony that meets global standards.
Nominees such as Segilola Ogidan, Apaokagi Maryam aka Taaooma and Efa Irawa were also featured, who shared their thoughts on the significance of the awards and the honor that comes with individual recognition at the prestigious awards night.
