Carpenter killed in building collapse in Ondo community

A 52-year-old carpenter identified as Ademola Lawrence was killed when a dilapidated classroom building at Los Angeles Elementary School Okitipupa in Ondo State’s Okitipupa Local Government Area collapsed. collapsed on him.

The incident happened on Wednesday, September 28, as the carpenter was tearing down the dilapidated building to make way for another structure.

A source said the father-of-four, from Ode-Irele, Irele Local Government Area, was doing the work of a bricklayer when he met his untimely death.

“He was trying to tear down the dilapidated structure when the horrific incident happened and he died before rescuers could reach him,” the source said.

The former headmaster of the school reportedly terminated the contract, but the man had to return to work after a new headmaster took over the school and renewed the contract.

The source said the man’s corpse was recovered from the rumblings and deposited in the morgue at the State Specialty Hospital, Okitipupa.

State Police Command spokesman Funmilayo Odunlami confirmed the incident.
