Boxer, Amir Khan reveals his regret at losing Anthony Joshua as a friend after publicly accusing him of having an affair with his wife

Amir Khan has revealed he regrets accusing Anthony Joshua of having an affair with his wife, Faryal Makhdoom, as the boxer did nothing wrong.

In 2017, the Bolton Khan fighter made a bombshell accusation when he tweeted he was going for a divorce and accused his wife of being a ‘gold digger’, writing: ‘So me and wife Faryal agreed to separate us. I am currently in Dubai. Wish him all the best. Faryal left quickly. Always told me how much she wanted to be with another guy, of all people another boxer @AnthonyFJoshua.’

Khan has now admitted to Gary Neville on the former Manchester United footballer’s Overlap podcast that it was a terrible mistake which he still cannot understand.

According to Khan, he was going through various issues in his personal life when he just ‘flipped’ and overreacted upon seeing a harmless message from the heavyweight fighter to his wife Faryal Makhdoom.

Khan, 35, said: “I was in the papers for crazy stuff – playing with women, chilling with this girl, chilling with this girl. I was going through a bit of a crazy time myself. I then wanted to leave my wife.

“I had the issue with Anthony Joshua which I feel really bad about because at the end of the day I put him in the crosshairs for no reason.

“I mean, he was a friend of mine and since then we’ve never spoken to each other.

“So I also lost a good friend because of it.”

When asked if this still happens to him, he replied, “Yes. The guy didn’t do anything wrong and I kind of stuck on him.

When asked if he now knows why he did it, he replied, “No. What happened was my wife – she and I weren’t talking – and she sent a message saying “look at so many fighters texting me”.

“And because she showed me a message from Anthony Joshua saying hello or something, I lost it.

“I said, ‘Who the hell is he, saying hi to my wife’, even though he was being cool with me.

“Maybe he was just respectful, all he was was respectful. Nothing ever happened.

“I just freaked out about everyone.
