Youth and education

Mike Aremu was born on May 4, 1980 in Kaduna State, the northern part of Nigeria, but grew up in Minna, Niger State, where he spent his childhood and youth. He is from Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

He attended primary and secondary school in Minna before moving to Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, state of war, where he studied electrical and electronic engineering; later he was admitted to University of Maiduguri.


He started playing musical instruments in his local church in Niger State, Nigeria, when he was 8 years old. He played in the band for the Boys’ Brigade. After taking some basic lessons, he focused on the saxophone in 1995. He joined the musical group House on the Rock a year later and began performing with gospel musicians, including Agboola Shadare, Gbenga Oweeye-Wiseand Sammie Okposo from Nigeria. In Nigeria, he made several appearances in places like chicks, The green lion, club towers, K’s placeand Mega Plaza Dome. He had working sessions with Your HighnessNigerian reggae musician Ras Kimonoand music star Fuji Wasiu Ayinde Marshall.

During this time, he got a recording contract with Kennis Music Label, Nigeria’s biggest record company, for three years (which eventually lasted four years). He went on to record the chart-topping albums”Dance(1999) andno shakingwhich have sold over 1.5 million copies. In addition, he recorded two songs for the American Christian Broadcast Network.

Aremu has shared the stage alongside artists such as Kenny G., Hugh Maskela, Israel Houghton, kirk franklin, Donnie McClurkin, Marvin WinansRon Kenoly, Mary Maryand Travis Green. In Washington, DC, he appeared at John F. Kennedy Center. He collaborated with author, preacher and gospel musician Abraham Adeshile the Great from the UK when the latter released the song “Next levelfor worship.

As part of the year Impressive praise concertsHe gave performances at The Barbican and ocean in London. Aremu also gave two performances at the London Life Festival (FOL), which took place at Excel Center in London on March 28 and October 18, 2008 and attracted more than 40,000 spectators each time.

Aremu has played nine times at Live (from 2006 to 2017); the 2010 Experience attracted more than 600,000 spectators Applause Balewa Square in Lagos. The opening show of her four-month tour at the Jazz Café in the UK in October 2008 was sold out. Following the release of his third album,Coat of several colorswhich was recorded in London, Mike Aremu embarked on a European tour, making additional appearances at venues like the Pizza Express Jazz Club and the Jazz Cafe London.

Apart from being a musician, he is also dedicated to software testing, data analysis, music production and video editing in order to keep evolving and updating on many things. He also does forex trading.

Sax call concert

Aremu organizes the largest jazz event in Nigeria, sax call, with the aim of promoting live musical performances in Nigeria. This concert, held annually since 2010, with the 2014 edition taking place in November 2014 at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, aims to promote contact between sponsoring organizations, business people and entrepreneurs in a fun setting. Aries indie, Kenny G., Judith Sephuma, Kunle Ayo, Yolande Brown, Hugh Maskela, Marvin Winans, Mary Mary, My Dakolo, Outside, Jessy J., Agboola Shadare, Yinka Davies, Although Martins, Without, Cobhams Asuquoand other musicians have all been featured on Sax Appeal.

Nigerian entrepreneurs, including Donald Duke, Where is Dangote?and Babatunde Fashola, have been invited several times.
