Bandits killed a commercial driver along the Funtua-Dandume road and allegedly abducted several passengers.
The attack, which happened around 7:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2022, has been established to involve commuters from Funtua and Dandume.
A commercial car driver criss-crossing the axis, Bello Halilu, said he drove by the scene immediately after the incident.
“The incident occurred at Kwanar Gamji around Hawan-Fulani. The bandits ambushed and opened fire on moving vehicles, killing a driver and abducting an unknown number of passengers. Some who escapees spent their night inside the farms,” he told the Daily Trust. .
“Halilu added that due to insecurity in the area, the roas is generally deserted except on market days.
“Like yesterday (Sunday), some drivers are managing to hit the road to take advantage of booming economic activities in this harvest season,” he added.
Alhaji Habibu, a Volkswagen Golf driver who was shot and admitted to Funtua General Hospital, said none of his passengers were abducted.
“When I fell into the bandits’ ambush, they have already immobilized a commercial vehicle and abducted its passengers; they shot at my car, a bullet hit me in the leg but I managed to accelerate for about two kilometers before I lost my strength and parked. Police from Dandume Division came later and took me to the hospital,” he said.
State Police Command spokesman SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the incident, said three vehicles were involved, adding that two drivers and a passenger were shot.
“One of the drivers died, the other two victims were taken to hospital. No trace of a passenger removed at this time,” he said.
