Akwa Ibom police arrest nurse for allegedly desecrating 14-year-old girl in hospital
Akwa Ibom State Police arrested one Austin Etim, a male nurse who works at Calabar General Hospital, for allegedly desecrating a 14-year-old girl inside the male ward of the hospital .
According to sources at the hospital, the nurse used a scarf to tie up the victim before assaulting him.
A nurse, who pleaded anonymity, said;
”The girl said he (the suspect) punched her twice before entering while tying her hands with a scarf, as she lost strength screaming, but the suspect overpowered her and succeeded.
The following morning, Sunday, the crying girl reported the incident to another nurse on duty as well as to her mother, who collapsed when she heard the incident.
The furious mother called their pastor, who promised to come to the hospital after the church service, but suddenly the teen’s mother changed her mind and said she only wanted the case be continued.
Hospital management handed the suspect over to police after repeatedly denying the allegation.
When contacted, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Health, MOH, Dr Iwara Iwara, said the suspect had been suspended and the hospital had 48 hours to medically examine the teenager and produce her medical report to pursue the prosecution of the case.
