Actor Olumide Oworu has broken his silence after his name was dropped in the Saturday March 18 election for the Surulere constituency of the Lagos State Legislative Assembly, which was won by the actor Desmond Elliott.
In a published statement, Olumide insisted that his participation in the electoral exercise was not for weight. Regarding his name not appearing on the ballot on election day, Olumide said INEC failed to obey a court order issued on February 2, ordering the commission to open its website for Labor to submit the names of its candidates. or accept manual submission. He added that the INEC had failed to upload the names on the list sent by the Labor Party in October 2022.
He wrote:
”Regarding the authenticity of my candidacy and my name not appearing on the ballot paper, this is a situation that arose due to INEC’s non-compliance with the remaining judgment of the Federal High Court rendered on February 2, 2023 in Case No: FHC/ABJ/CS/2115/2022 in which INEC was ordered to open its website to allow the Labor Party to submit its list of candidates or manually accept it immediately. The INEC failed to upload the names on the list sent by the Labor Party in October 2022. I assure you that this endeavor was not an attempt at influence but was born out of a genuine desire of change.’
