Medical doctors in Abia State have launched into an indefinite strike over salaries owed to them by the state authorities.
Private and non-private hospitals within the state have reportedly been closed resulting from 24-month wage arrears owed to docs and different workers at Abia State Educating Hospital (ABSUTH); and 13 months resulting from their counterparts at Well being Administration Board, HMB.
This comes barely per week after hanging docs barricaded the entrance door of the Umuahia authorities residence, demanding fast cost of again wages.
Chatting with Vanguard, the Secretary of State for the Medical Affiliation of Nigeria, Dr. Daniel Ekeleme, mentioned the strike was full and indefinite.
Ekeleme, who revealed that that they had already acquired 98% compliance on the Federal Medical Heart in Umuahia, whereas the docs have been away from their duties, promised that they might preserve the measure till the federal government makes the required.
