A man is arrested after trying to breach the barriers as the Queen’s coffin emerges for the procession

A man has been arrested after he appeared to try to jump over a barrier as the Queen’s coffin was due to begin its procession out of London following her funeral on Monday September 19.

The incident happened in Parliament Street, near the Cenotaph, as the coffin was due to begin its journey from nearby Westminster Abbey, heading for the Mall after the monarch’s funeral.

Police arrested the man after the coffin was taken out of the abbey but before the procession got underway.

The procession drew large numbers of people to London – with mourners coming from all over the UK and the world to pay their respects to the Queen as she made her final journey out of London and into Windsor, where she will be buried.

Viewing areas along Central London Road had reached capacity hours before the funeral was to begin.

At 9 a.m., officials warned: “All motorcade viewing areas are now full. There is no entry for newcomers. Please follow the advice of the stewards and the police.

“If you are in the area or about to arrive, use the dedicated walking path in Hyde Park to attend the State Funeral and the Procession of Her Majesty The Queen.”

Metropolitan Police Deputy Deputy Commissioner Stuart Cundy said ‘nothing compares’ to the ‘hugely complex’ task, describing it as the ‘largest policing operation’ in Met history.

As of Friday, more than 30 arrests had been made in the operation for a range of offences, Mr Cundy added.
