9-year-old victim of child sexual exploitation gives birth in Zimbabwe
A 9-year-old child victim of child sexual exploitation has given birth to a baby in Zimbabwe.
The Tsholotsho minor, who was being closely monitored by a team of health experts, delivered a baby girl via United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) Section C on Monday, November 14, 2022.
Dr Harrison Rambanapasi, acting clinical director of United Hospitals Bulawayo, confirmed the development to reporters on Monday.
“I wish to inform the nation that our nine year old child was delivered at UBH. Our specialists performed the C-section in the early hours of today. The result is a healthy baby girl weighing just over 3 kg. Both mother and baby are in stable condition,” he said.
The girl’s father was arrested on August 29, 2022 and is assisting police with investigations.
The father was the only male relative the victim lived with. Additionally, the victim said the abuse only happened at night.
Meanwhile, First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa said she was relieved the 9-year-old had safely given birth to a bouncy baby girl.
In a statement, Dr Mnangagwa said she was grateful she managed to visit him with groceries and other items on Saturday before he was due.
