68 soldiers facing the marshal of the court of Sokoto

The Nigerian Army 8th Division Sokoto brought 68 soldiers to court for various offenses before a Field Marshal General sitting at Giginya Barrack in the state.

Declaring the Yard Marshal open, the General Officer Commanding 8 Div, Major General Uwem Bassey said the session was convened due to the urgent need for posting and promotion as the Yard Marshal is established to administer justice not only to the victims but also to the institution as well as the accused during the trial.

Speaking to reporters, counsel for the accused, Godwin Uwadige, said one of the accused soldiers was charged with armed robbery while others were charged with cowardice and other punishable offences.

According to counsel for the accused, some of the suspects had been in custody for almost 2 years.
