23-year-old policewoman shot dead by her lover in Uganda
Police in Kabale District, Uganda are investigating the circumstances in which a 23-year-old policewoman was allegedly shot dead by her civilian lover.
Police say PC Caroline Komuhangi, who was attached to the Kabale Police Unit, was killed on Sunday morning March 19, 2023 at her barracks.
“It is alleged that on March 18, 2023 at approximately 6 p.m. the deceased signed for the weapon and went on night duty. At approximately 6:30 a.m. on March 19, she returned from duty and while she was resting, her friend Denis Arinaitwe came in and the two had a fight,” Kigezi region police spokesman Elly Maate told The Daily Monitor.
“As Komuhangi tried to escape, the friend took his gun, thereby shooting her once in the back and two more in the shoulder, killing her instantly,” Mr Maate said.
On Sunday, police officers from the couple’s neighborhood arrested the civilian friend and took him to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital (KRRH) under surveillance.
“That’s because he was also injured while trying to kill himself by shooting himself in the nose,” Maate revealed.
Mr Maate said the exhibit of cartridges and bloodstains on the gun had been recovered and a case of murder had been registered at Kabale police station.
By noon, the body of the deceased had been recovered from the scene and taken to the KRRH morgue for autopsy.
