2 presumed dead as gunmen attack army checkpoint in Enugu
Two people are feared dead after unidentified gunmen attacked an army checkpoint on the Obeagu-Amodu road in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State on Tuesday September 27 .
Eyewitnesses say the thugs stormed the area in two Lexus SUVs and a Toyota Sienna bus around 7:25 a.m. They allegedly opened fire on the combined police and army team.
Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesman, told TheCable that the officers were attacked during a “stop and search service”.
He said police are on the trail of the gunmen but details of the incident are still “unclear”.
“There was an attack on police officers on stop and search duty this morning along Agbani Road near the Enugu/Port-Harcourt highway by thugs who have not yet been identified “, said Nduka.
“However, the details of the incident are still unclear, as tactical/operational officers from the command have been mobilized and are on the trail of the miscreants. Further developments will be communicated.
