10-year-old boy mauled to death by his family’s pit bulls in South Africa

Condolences pour in for a 10-year-old boy, Storm Nuku, who was mauled to death by his family’s two pit bulls in Gqeberha, CapeTown, South Africa

Eastern Cape Police spokesman Colonel Priscilla Naidu in a statement on Tuesday said the boy was attacked by the dogs on Monday afternoon September 26, 2022.

Naidu said the victim and two other children were inside their home when the attack took place, adding that the boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Police were alerted to the incident and upon arrival officers shot and killed the two dogs inside the house.

“We were forced to shoot and kill the two dogs, an investigation file will be opened for further investigation,” Naidu said.

“At this stage, it is unclear what happened when the two dogs turned on the boy. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Two other children were found in the house when the boy arrived. the police and were not injured,” she added.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, the 10-year-old’s grandfather, Wayne Nuku, said he would miss him dearly.

“RIP my Storm. God knows what’s best. We will surely miss you. You called me back last week. I didn’t know it was your last kiss. Rest easy my child angel, my heart is broken,” the post read.

Meanwhile, the Sizwe Kupelo Foundation has called for pit bulls to be banned as pets in South Africa.

“We cannot continue to lose youngsters like Storm Nuku to these vicious dogs who have shown time and time again that they should not be kept as pets,” the organization said.
